Donations in 2003 ~ 2004 To all the people who have donated to The Nchima Trust during the year 2003 - 2004 a big thank you from all of us here. Below is a list of everyone who sent donations it is all appreciated.
Sue Andrews donated money to buy two Briquette Machines. This very simple piece of machinery is made in Blantyre and is used to compress scrap paper in to brickettes the resulting bricks can then be burnt as fuel so saving a few trees. Unfortunately they can not be used in rural areas as there isn't the quantities of scrap paper to make the machine viable. The two Sue donated went a group of Micro Credit ladies run by Eliza Ngoma and the other to the Thyolo Community Centre which has a thriving hand made paper making industry. Sue Andrews and Graham Ruthen have also this year provided funds to train 4 medical students. Eltas Nyirenda, Kondwani Katundu, Jerome Nkambule and Judith Mkwaila all started as 1st year students at the Medical School in Blantyre January 2004. Last year there was famine in Malawi our thanks go to The Friends of Malawi Association who donated a large amount of money to help alleviate hunger. Many villages received maize thanks to their donation. This year the rains have been good and hunger not such a big problem. Martin and Lucy Ashley have a range of cards designed by Malawian Artists. They very kindly donate to the Nchima Trust the proceeds of this particular range of cards. If anyone would like to buy these cards Martin and Lucy can be contacted on 01225 742268. Victoria and Martin Macdonald open their home in Berkhamstead Herts. To people who need accommodation, usually visiting clergy from near and far they share all donations given to them between The Nchima Trust and the Quiet Garden Trust. Martin and Victoria can be contacted on 01442 384953 or by email vjmacdonald@ntlworld.com St. Paul's Primary School held a Christmas Fair and donated the proceeds to us, with this money we were able to buy school books for two primary schools in Malawi. P & O Cruises/ Swan Hellenic donated the collection from a number of their Sunday services on board three of their cruise ships Aurora, Oceana and Minerva. Rob and Margaret Bridger used to live in Mulanje in Malawi they now live in Australia. A group of their friends sent us donations through out the year. With this we were able to give extra money to students who need to do Research Projects to finish of their degrees. A number of people have had birthdays and asked that donations be sent to The Nchima Trust in lieu of gifts. Some have sent to us rather than send Christmas Cards and gifts to friends and neighbours. Finally to those who have lost loved ones and have sent us donations in their memory we give you all our thanks.
