HIV/AIDS orphans

HIV/AIDS and the orphans left behind as a result of this terrible disease is one of Malawi's biggest problems. The Malawians themselves are doing a wonderful job in the villages where they are setting up self help and home care groups but this is not enough. They all need the aids retroviral drug which by and large is unavailable on a large scale in Malawi.

Orphans in their hundreds are cared for at feeding centres and orphanages. The pictures show Ann Scarborough visiting a man too weak to come out of his hut in a village in Salima and the other picture is of an orphan choir in Bvumbwe.
