 Adjacent to the Nchima Trust smallholding in Thyolo is a bakery from which orphans scavenge waste scraps. This blog entry is a moving account of how the team at the Nchima Trust Centre has encouraged these orphans to focus on something else. Nchima Trust attempts to keep in touch with all of its sponsored students and in general we insist upon some kind of annual check with each educational establishment we are supporting to ensure that the student has enrolled and is doing well.  We recently heard of the desperate need for ventilators in the high dependancy unit at the General Hospital in Zomba. Patients requiring ventilation were having to travel to Blantyre which is about 40 miles away and transport was not always available. So we are proud to announce that on this occasion we have been able to step in and help.

 Ennifer lives in a remote area in the Thyolo region with her aunt because her mother died and her father remarried leaving her behind. It is only by radio that she heard that she had been selected to study her first choice of Mathematical Sciences and Education at the Polytechnic College with a government grant of Mk 33,000 for lodging and food. She is supposed to come to the College on Sunday 9 January 2011.

Nchima Trust Board recently aproved funding to support the Community Based Organisation (CBO) at Mangame, a village near Thuchila Forest in a remote area an hour's drive from Mulanje. We have previously supported the people in this area with ambucycles and other small contributions. The village committees in this area take considerable responsibility for donated goods and as a result it is deemed to be a good place to support.

  Yusuf Kanamazina trained at the School of Medicine as a Lab Technologist and graduated with flying colours. He approached us for funding as a mature student with family commitments and has clearly relished the challenge. Thanks to all out sponsors who enable us to support people like Yusuf.

 SIBFORD SCHOOL DONATION ENABLED THIS SCHOOL KITCHEN BUILDING.

The building in the photos was built from money donated by the staff and pupils of Sibford School in Oxfordshire, England. Sibford School and the Nchima Trust have developed a strong relationship over the past few years and the School has donated generously to specific projects which they have been able to see come to fruition.

 The paper is made from recycled/shredded paper which is mixed with water to make a pulp. From there it is sieved, dried, trimmed and decorated. The results are cleverly crafted and charming images of Malawi.
