A Good Read - Try 'The boy who harnessed the wind' by William Kamkwamba - an inspiring and moving story from a young Malawian

This is a great book which takes the reader through the harrassing effects of famine through to an inspirational use of technology to harness the wind for the benefit of a Malawian family, against all odds. William Kamkwamba's story brings out the reality of the true hardship that Malawians face, particularly those in rural areas. This is a very moving account of famine and ingenuity at the turn of this century.

Chinyama District receives 2 more ambucycles in memory of Renee Van Hees

A donation in memory of Dr. ReneeVan Hees was spent on 2 ambucycles (reinforced for poor terrain) which were donated to the Chinyama CBO (Community based organisation). Chinyama is in a relatively remote area of Malawi with poor access to health care facilities. In addition to this many of the men work away from home so these ambucycles are very helpful. The CBO is well organised and Nchima has supported it in supporting itself for some time now. They look after donated items and as can be seen in the delightful account from Jeannette Heikens, our Malawi based volunteer, we are encouraging other self help initiatives.

Trustee Ann Scarborough raises £6,000

NT Trustee Ann Scarborough (aged 79) raised £6,000 from another UK based charitable Trust when she presented a case for NT last week to the donors Board.
